Disaster Relief - Indiana Flood Victims
   Minimize

As you know, many communities in Indiana have recently been devastated by flooding.  We have the opportunity to help families affected in several ways.

The Town of Fishers has adopted Lewis Creek and Flat Rock communities after learning that the small, unincorporated communities have no professional police or fire services and badly need assistance.  Flat Rock and Lewis Creek are located approximately fifteen miles southwest of Shelbyville.   The Flat Rock volunteer fire department estimated that 16 homes in the area were completely destroyed by flash flooding and 44 were badly damaged.

  •  To help with clean up - meet at Fishers Town Hall at 8:30 A.M. Saturday June 21 and Sunday, June 22 and caravan to Shelby County.
  • You can sign up to volunteer and learn more about the effort to help via the Fishers website or by calling 595-3470.
  • Donations needed (can be dropped off at any Fishers Fire Station).
non perishable food items bottled water toilet tissue
gallon size Ziploc bags trash bags paper towels
  dental floss tooth brushes  toothpaste
  deodorant bar soap body wash
  hand sanitizer shampoo conditioner
  wash clothes mops mop buckets
diapers baby wipes baby formula/baby food

  • Cash and in-kind donations are being accepted as well.  Checks can be made out to ECDC – Disaster Relief and delivered to Town Hall or the Fishers Chamber of Commerce.  (ECDC stands for Economic Community Development Corporation, a not-for-profit partnership between the Town of Fishers and the Fishers Chamber of Commerce.)

Lutheran Disaster Response is currently working in ten synods throughout the Midwest, including our own Indiana-Kentucky synod.

  • To help with clean-up and recovery work contact Jennifer Krieg (574-583-9800; jenkrieg@comcast.
  • Send contributions: LDR Indiana, P.O. Box 1105, Monticello, IN 47960.
  • Because LDR is committed to addressing long-term recovery they will soon be looking to hire a case manager to work for three months in southern Indiana (in partnership with Jennifer Krieg, who lives in northern Indiana).  LDR needs to raise $3500 to cover this cost.  If you know anyone who might be qualified for a position like this or you are willing to assist in raising this money, please contact Jennifer at the email address above.
